Iona School in Nottingham (Charity No 516999) offers Steiner Waldorf education for children from 3 up to 11 years.
The school's supporters are building a shelter in the grounds. This will provide a vital sheltered space for use as an outdoor classroom, to house workshops and as the base-space for outdoor events. It could also help generate income to support the work of the school.
The project is being supported by Nottingham Trent University, whose architecture students will do much of the building work and gain valuable hands-on experience. E.on are aiding the project through their community support programme. Also supporting with their professional services are GT Construction, 2hD Architects and Price and Myers Engineers. Ibstock Brick have done what they do best, and supplied the project with bricks.
The experience gained in raising this shelter could be the start of other self-build projects at the school, which would further enrich the children's experience and education.
